An Open Letter To My Child Who Is Going Back To School

Dear little one,
As you return to school, my heart is full of gratitude—that you are healthy, thriving, and ready to meet your friends again. I can’t wait to see you soar as you learn the world around you.
May you have teachers who will look beyond your mistakes in class—may they understand your littleness, but at the same time give you space to learn on your own. May your teachers grant you a safe space when Daddy and Mommy can’t be by your side.
I hope that with this independence, you find courage to be true to yourself and learn how to stand up for what you believe in…and be a friend to those in need. Share time and laughter with your classmates and make school a fun experience. During recess, talk about your favorite topics with your peers—be it online games, TikTok videos, books, or toys. Create friendships that will make you feel you truly belong.
Please watch your health—keep your mask on while in class, and make hand washing and disinfecting part of your routine. We all want to stay healthy and safe so we can continue enjoying this opportunity to see our friends face to face again.
When you come home from school, tell me about your day. I am excited to see your cheerful eyes and hear your happy squeals. I am proud of you for braving the ever-changing world. You will always have my support.
Always with you,
Mommy
