Childbirth in the Time of Quarantine

mother giving birth in hospital in pandemic
It's been a week since I laid eyes on you. I still can't believe it! We have waited for you for 12 years and finally you are here! Thank God for this answered prayer.
Lola Nila would have been so happy to touch and kiss you, but her mission here was already completed. She was still able to see you when you were still inside my tummy. It's called an ultrasound; your very 1st picture my baby. She was with us throughout the birthing journey and I'm sure she would look at you with love in her eyes.
Welcome my Baby Kyle to this pandemic world! We had a rough start, my love. I was induced for 24 hours to start the contractions without any progress in dilating the cervix.
Frustrating as it was, the doctor told us the following day to checkout of the hospital if the next medicine would still not work because the COVID-19 swab test results was only valid until end of the day! I really did not understand this hospital protocol! I was already in pain and in labor, and they would kick me out just because of the swab test validity of 14 days?
I prayed the rosary three times in the labor room and Daddy Arvin offered mass and we asked for prayers from family and friends. At 2PM, they sent me to the regular room where daddy stayed overnight expecting the contractions to stop since they have removed the medicine already. They told me to have some therapeutic rest and freshen up before taking me back to the labor room by 6PM to give a new medication. What rest? I was in pain! And the pain was intensifying by the minute! I was sent back around 4:30PM and we were all surprised that I was already at 6cm... from closed! I was rushed to the birthing room and given epidural. A little past 6PM, they had burst my water bag. I did not feel any pain thanks to the anesthesia... but not for long.
In just a few minutes, I was in terrible pain again. I was shouting, "Dagdagan nyo ang anesthesia!" In a few minutes, I felt like pooping and everybody gathered around. This is it! All set! Pushed four times and you were out at 7:20PM! Thank God for the photo finish normal delivery! No need for COVID-19 re-swabbing & checking out! All is well. You and I were fine. Another answered prayer!
