edamama CONNECT: Real Mama Insights on Lactation Supplements

One expecting mama went on edamama connect to ask for opinions on when she should start taking lactation drinks or vitamins. At 28 weeks, she was wondering whether it was too early to start taking malunggay drinks and tablets, or even eating some lactation cookies. She wanted to make sure that by the time she gave birth, she already had milk to give her precious little one.
Doc Nina, an OBGYN, was one of the first to weigh in on the question. She shared that she usually recommends malunggay capsules to her patients during the last stretch of pregnancy, which begins at 34 weeks.
Most doctors prescribe V-Pharma’s Mega-Malunggay Capsules, which are available in boxes of 100 on the edamama platform.
However, she warns about taking lactation sweets during pregnancy, especially for mamas who are at-risk of gestational diabetes.
Doc Nina also noted that mature milk production will start naturally once your little one latches after birth, so there’s really no need to take more than the usual dosage of lactation supplements during pregnancy.
One mama shared that she started taking lactation sweets at seven months, while she began taking Buds & Blooms Pure & Young Malunggay Capsules during her 35th week. By the time she reached the 37th week mark, she started to add lactation drinks to her daily beverage intake in order to boost her milk supply.
A mama-favorite lactation drink is Natureearth’s M2 Tea Drink with Malunggay, Okra, and Luya. Aside from being an effective lactation aid, it is rich in Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Beta Carotene and other vitamins and nutrients needed to fight viruses and to strengthen the immune system.
Another mama revealed that she started taking malunggay supplements as early as 30 weeks. Aside from it being a great help to produce milk, she shared that she also started taking it because it was healthy for her own body.
There is no right or wrong answer to when exactly a mama should be taking lactation supplements, and it’s usually up to yours and your doctor’s discretion. With some moms having a milk supply even before giving birth, taking lactation supplements during pregnancy can help to increase this supply even more by the time your little one arrives.
However, while pregnant, it is best not to stress about the volume of milk you will possibly have. Unnecessary stress can harm you and your little one, and taking things one day at a time is recommended.
After all, whether or not you already have milk while pregnant, the process of milk transition will happen between three to five days after birth. During the first days of your little one, they will only be ingesting colostrum, which is just enough to fit their tiny bellies!
