It is indeed a blessing to be expecting a little one. Although for some of the couples out there, they may struggle to conceive. Fortunately, there are amazing individuals who are passionate in helping people make their own families – one of them is Dra. Niña Patricia Gaerlan-Revecho, one of edamama’s Connect experts and definitely a Mama Who Win.
Dra. Revecho is an obstetrician-gynecologist who has helped a lot of couples struggling with infertility to conceive and have successful pregnancies. She pursued Medicine in University of Santo Tomas, where she chose to continue her specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) until the year 2010. Currently, Dra. Revecho is well-known as a board-certified infertility specialist since 2018. She practices her profession in the South part of Metro Manila, specifically in her clinics in Muntinlupa and Bacoor.
Heaven Sent: Helping Struggling Couples Conceive
For the past five years of infertility practice, her passion in helping struggling couples has certainly been worth it after helping at least 40 couples conceive under her care. There are a lot of great moments shared by Dra. Revecho, but of course, she shared that “the very first is always one of the memorable ones.”
The story she shared was about a couple who has been trying to conceive for six (6) years already. The wife who was struggling to get pregnant was 36 years old, has Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), and was also identified as obese. As an OB-GYN, her initial advice was “to lose a small percentage of her weight in 6 months”, as shared by Dra. Revecho. From this, her patient promised to her that she will be able to do it. In her amazement, Dra. Revecho met her patient again and achieved the weight goal they had set from their previous consultation. Not just that, but they “found out that there was already a little baby in her (patient’s) womb,” even before their follow up. Pure joy was felt by Dra. Revecho as she helped her first struggling couple conceive.
This is just one of the success stories from Dra. Revecho, but her service and the help she provides to couples never ended there. She shared that “all my patients’ success stories touch me in a special way.” She has couples under her watch who decide to go beyond consultations, and continue their journey with Dra. Revecho until delivery. There are even some who still update her regarding the status of their labor, despite the distance from Dra. Revecho in terms of her area of practice. She is beyond grateful as she expressed that “all my fertility couples hold a special place in my heart, and I am thankful to them for entrusting me with their journey.”
Although the pandemic may have affected couples when it comes to seeking professional help, Dra. Revecho shared that she was still able to lend a helping hand through telemedicine. Due to COVID-19, couples were found to be “generally afraid to conceive”, said Dra. Revecho. This was because of the unknown effects of the said virus in pregnancy. However, that did not stop Dra. Revecho as she chose to give a lot of encouragement to patients where they positively responded and went to her for infertility treatments.
Moving Forward with Dra. Revecho
As an infertility specialist, Dra. Revecho’s advice to patients who are struggling to conceive is “ trust your doctor, the process, and especially God.” She emphasized that fertility is not an overnight treatment, and that some couples really had to go through some time to reach their goal – which is to be pregnant. Patience is indeed key to success, and also patients are advised to have faith as well.
She is also that OB-GYN doctor who shows endless support, not just through her expertise and knowledge, but also emotionally. She tries to be very responsive to all her ‘trying to conceive’ (TTC) couples given that infertility burdens in an emotional manner too. Her constant reassurance helps these patients to gain confidence and to keep them inspired to continue healthier ways of living in order to reach their goal.
As stated by Dra. Revecho, “if they know I am with them every step of the way, they gain confidence and hope which enables them to push through. I also tell them that infertility is not life and death, and they can choose their treatments that best suit them (based on my recommendations).” She also acknowledges patients who find some of the treatments complicated and expensive, where she tells them that it is okay as their overall well-being (emotional and mental health included) is also important.
edamama believes that Dra. Revecho is a great addition to edamama Connect. Her expertise definitely has helped a lot of other individuals when it comes to infertility or pregnancy. Dra. Revecho can be reached through her Facebook page.
