7 Ways To Make Your Baby’s First Christmas Special

Life has been pretty exciting for you as of late, mama. You’ve just welcomed a new addition to your family and now, that precious bundle of joy will be celebrating their first Christmas.
Your little one may not be able to understand what the holiday fuss is all about, but that doesn’t change the fact that this is an important milestone for them (and for you!) — another first that should be celebrated and remembered.
Keep calm and jingle all the way to a merry and memorable Christmas with your newborn. Just take note of the following reminders:
1. Decide ahead where you’ll be spending Christmas.
Decisions about where to spend Christmas have to be made several weeks in advance. Together with your partner, make that choice whether to celebrate with your family or his side of the family, or if you are going to be holding a feast at your own place. If everyone lives near each other, you can spend Christmas eve with one family and Christmas day with the other to avoid hurt feelings.
2. Create a wishlist.
Giving presents to a baby can be tricky, especially when there are already preferred brands of baby products. You don’t want several gifts for your baby unused and sitting in the storage for a long time. To make gifting your newborn easier for your family and friends, you can create a Gift Registry so that they’ll just pick out from the items in there. It’s also more convenient for them as they no longer have to rack their brains for gift ideas.
3. Declutter to make space for the incoming gifts.
Your adorable baby is the apple of the eye of so many relatives right now. So expect an avalanche of gifts come Christmas Day. Before that happens, do an inventory of their toys, clothes, and other nursery essentials. Then start decluttering so you’ll have enough space when the new items for the baby have been unwrapped.
4. Start your own family tradition.
Traditions make the season even merry and bright because there’s something to look forward to. With a new baby in the family, why not start your own holiday traditions that will get your little one excited year after year? It can be an annual family portrait you can use for the Christmas card you’ll be sending out to loved ones, wearing matching pajamas as a family, or going on a holiday trip.
5. Decorate the house with personalized ornaments.
If decking out the whole house with holiday decors proves to be too tedious, you can start with the nursery or baby room. A few personalized touches here and there can bring in the holiday cheer and festive mood into your home. Spell out your baby’s name using Christmas colors such as red and green, hang a bauble bearing their name, or park a Christmas sack with their name printed on it under the tree. So many IG-worthy details right there, mama!
6. Take lots of photos — and videos, too!
Your baby will only be this small now. You’ll soon find yourself wishing you should have taken as many photos as you can to remember their littleness. This year, document their first Christmas by immortalizing these moments in photographs and videos. Photos send you back in time and can help you relive a special time in your life, including your little one’s first Yuletide celebrations.
7. Keep your baby safe and healthy!
With the many holiday parties and get-togethers you need to go to, ensure that your newborn doesn’t catch a virus and remains in the pink of health. Set boundaries — such as no kissing or holding the baby — and strictly adhere to them. You can even say no to invitations if it will affect your little one’s sleep routine or schedule. The goal is to make this season as stress-free as possible for them!
