Hi mamas! In a season that brings people together, make it even more memorable and meaningful by planning a road trip with the whole family. Everyone will have loads of fun and this can build beautiful core memories for your little one.
Yes, it does sound exciting! But for mamas (A.K.A you!) who are in charge of the packing and ensuring nothing essential is left sitting in the house, this experience can be daunting and stressful. You take care of the entire itinerary, prepare your personal belongings, and of course your little one’s bag too! And when you are a mom of a young child, you know there’s a lot to pack and bring!
Fret not, mama. Let us help you with this checklist of must-not-forget items for your baby:
1. Diapers: Diaper rash is one of the main reasons why a baby gets all fussy and cries non-stop. Don’t let this happen. Make sure to have enough stash of diapers to last you during the whole trip. Constantly check and immediately change soiled diapers.
2. Wipes: Items that serve multiple purposes are great space savers. Wipes are like that. Aside from using them to clean your baby’s bottom, you can also use them to clean and sanitize just about anything you have — a toy, the carseat, gears, bags, and more.
3. Car seat: Keep your precious baby securely fastened on a car seat to protect them against any untoward incidents on the road. Keeping them there can also free your hands and help you rest and relax during the trip.
4. Stroller and Baby Carrier: Long drives require several stopovers so the driver and the passengers can have some much-needed stretch and rest. A stroller or a baby carrier can come in handy during such breaks.
5. Clothes and towels: While it’s tempting to throw too many outfits on the luggage, remember that you have other things to stuff in the car. So pack light by carefully selecting clothing items that you can layer when needed and are easy to mix and match. Bring extra towels too!
6. Snacks: Forget to bring these and you are sure to expect meltdowns and tantrums! You don’t want to be stressed in the middle of a traffic jam with a crying child. So pack some snacks and their favorite treats.
7. Water and Milk: When going on long drives, it’s important to stay hydrated. Ensure your child has their own water bottle so they can take a sip every now and then. If they are formula-fed, pack all the necessary stuff like milk bottles, milk, bottle cleaners, and more.
8. Activity Sets and Toys: Being stuck in traffic with a child on board doesn’t seem like the most ideal situation to be in. Avoid crying fits by bringing toys and tools that can distract them and keep them entertained for hours. Bring their favorite plushie or lovey, or buy new ones they haven’t played with yet.
9. Books: Anything that can keep your little one busy for several minutes or hours are welcome in the car. For babies, there are books that are made for them — chew-proof, rip-proof, and drool-proof.
10. First aid kit: Mamas are praning for a reason. We want to ensure all is well when it comes to our babies. So do not get in the car without a first aid kit you can turn to for emergency situations. This should also carry your child’s vitamins and medications.
11. Mosquito repellent and sunblock: You’ll never know when you’ll be needing these creams so better have them ready, too!
12. Blankets and pillows: The goal is to make your child’s trip as comfortable as possible. So it’s good to have a blanket and pillows ready should they ask for them.
