May is known for a number of holidays, including but not limited to Labor Day, Cinco de Mayo, and Flores de Mayo to name a few. However, unbeknownst to some people, May is also the month when International Museum Day takes place!
International Museum Day takes place on May 18. That’s a few days away! This gives you enough time to celebrate this day. What’s more, it’s something you can celebrate here! In Metro Manila alone, there are a number of great museums you can visit.
However, given that there are a number to choose from, it could be hard to figure out where you could start. Fortunately, we at edamama have a few ideas on what places you could visit. So, if this is something up your alley or something you want to try, read on and see which museum (or museums) appeal to you the most!

The Museums in Metro Manila

When it comes to museums, Metro Manila has you covered. There are all sorts of museums scattered around the metro, with each having its own unique collection of fascinating things. From artifacts to exquisite pieces of art, chances are there is a museum that has it.
So, with that in mind, here are a few museums that you should consider checking out. Whether it’s your first time or your family’s, these are all ideal choices for a different kind of day out!

The National Museum of Anthropology

If you’re interested in delving into prehistoric Philippines, one of the best places to check out would be one of the museums. More specifically, the National Museum of Anthropology. This is one of the three National Museums in Manila. What’s more, close to the other two!
In the National Museum of Anthropology, you’ll find things such as artifacts that go as far back as the Galleon trade to the different ethnographic findings that give you a glimpse of prehistoric Philippine life. This is perfect if you want to introduce your children to the country’s history.

The National Museum of Natural History

Just a stone’s throw away, the National Museum of Natural History gives you a closer and more in-depth look into the Philippines’ flora and fauna. Considering that our country is an archipelago found in a tropical region, it’s certain that you’ll find an ecosystem that’s rich in biodiversity. As such, there’s so much for you to see and learn more about.
If your child’s interested in nature, like animals, or you want them to have an appreciation of it, this is a perfect museum to take them too. From everything on land to everything in the bodies of water in the Philippines, you’ll definitely find something that’ll pique your child’s interest.

The National Museum of Fine Arts

This is yet another museum that’s a stone’s throw away from the National Museums found in Manila. However, this museum focuses less on history and more on the fine pieces of artwork made by Philippine artists! From Juan Luna’s world famous Spoliarium to Amorsolo’s “Ang Wakas ni Magallanes,” this museum showcases our national artists’ best works!
If you’ve got older children, this is a great place to take them! While they may not be able to see these works of art the same way a curator does, they’ll still be able to appreciate how intricate these paintings are and how grand they are too! Plus, it could spark a love for art!

Museo Pambata

Aside from national museums, Metro Manila also has museums that are a little more different. By this, we mean museums that are more interactive and appealing to children. The Museo Pambata is a perfect example of this!
From science experiments to educational audiovisial displays and exhibits, the Museo Pambata is the perfect place to take your kids! It’s tailored to children, so you can rest assured that they’ll love something in this museum. For all you know, you might also find something to love too! After all, the museum caters to both the young and the young-at-heart.

The Ayala Museum

Another great museum you can go to in Manila would be the Ayala Museum. Found along Makati Avenue, this museum houses several different exhibits. From permanent collections, such as those showcasing more prehistoric Philippine artifacts, dioramas of Philippine history, and digital exhibits, to seasonal exhibits that showcase varying works, there’s so much to look at here.
So, if you want to take a trip around Makati and want a detour, or don’t want to go all the way to Manila for a museum trip, the Ayala Museum is a good choice! Plus, you can always come back and find a whole new exhibit waiting for you!
International Museum Day is just around the corner, and it’s a perfect opportunity to get your family to do something different. What’s more, it’s also a great way to get your children into the arts or Philippine history! Fortunately, this is something that’s easy to do if you’re in Metro Manila. With all the museum’s in the area, finding one to visit won’t be too hard! However, if you want to narrow down your choices or find a place you’re sure is nice, consider the five we’ve listed here! These are definitely some of the museums you have to visit!
