If you feel like you have this overwhelming desire to get your home ready for the arrival of your beautiful bundle of joy, you are not alone. Most women in the last few weeks of their pregnancy experience this natural, strong urge to organize and clean everything in sight as well as buy as many baby and household items as possible. It’s called nesting.
Although nesting instincts can be experienced by expecting mamas at any time during the life-changing 40 weeks of their pregnancy, it’s strongest as you near your due date. Whether it’s shopping for additional newborn clothes or obsessively cleaning every nook and cranny, you just want to ensure you’ve stocked up on all the essentials and that your “nest” (aka your home) is safe and comfortable for the coming baby.
Ahead, we dish out some tips for safe nesting!
1. Deep clean the house, but with caution. Don’t push yourself too hard, you can always ask for help when cleaning hard-to-reach areas. Remember that you should not get tired and too stressed at this point in your pregnancy.
2. Sanitize and disinfect the house using non-toxic cleaning products. Choose an all-natural brand that doesn’t have harmful chemicals for you and the baby.
3. Stock the pantry. You will soon find out that it will be hard to do frequent grocery runs when the baby arrives. So use this time to fill your pantry with enough items to create a few meals.
4. Prepare the nursery. It’s important to create a calm and comfortable space for the baby as this is where the little one will be spending the most time in. Design and decorate it with nursery items that will make it a relaxing haven for both of you.
5. Recheck your newborn essentials list. Sure, you’ve started shopping for baby items in the previous trimesters. Now, ensure that you’ve got all baby essentials covered—especially your diaper supply. What about availing of a diaper subscription so that you don't need to worry about running out of diapers? Mamas are already raving about edamama's Subscribe & Save feature because of the big savings and convenience it gives them.
6. Don’t forget your postpartum care must-haves. If you’re planning to breastfeed, get yourself comfortable nursing bras and malunggay supplements. A good postpartum belly band will also help you recover faster. Remember that big changes are coming once the baby comes, so prepare for it so that you can still achieve postpartum bliss.
